What’s Happening at CG?

Daily Devotional

Read: Luke 20: 1-8
The chief priests and the teachers of the law had one mission…get rid of Jesus, by any means necessary. It didn’t matter what He said, their intention was to bring Him to trial and destroy Him. But, Jesus exposed their plan and motives spoiling their trap. The interesting thing is, the issue was a question of authority. Did Jesus have the authority to do and say the things that He did in His ministry? The real issue was, more and more people were listening and following Jesus. This was causing the chief priest’s authority to be questioned. They acted as though God did not know their motives, or could see their intentions.
It is sad when the world, and unfortunately even the church, becomes selfish and self-centered, and we fall to doing things that are motivated by hatred, jealousy, greed, envy and strife. Those motives only lead to lawlessness and destruction. But, we know that in Christ there is a higher law and a greater authority. As we walk with Jesus this week, let us be reminded of the words from Galatians 5:22-23, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”
Lord Jesus, thank you for your sacrifice for us so that we might learn how to live our lives motivated by the fruit of the Spirit and not the things of the world. Thank for our journey today.
