The Book of Acts

Chapter 5

Daily Devotional

Read: Matthew 26:14-16
The story of Judas Iscariot, one of the disciples of Jesus (he was the treasurer and a thief), is a heartbreaking story of betrayal, greed and selfishness. How could he have walked, witnessed and worked with Jesus for three years, and at the first chance collaborate with the people who were plotting the death of the Savior? We see this foretold in the Old Testament books of Psalms 41:9 and Zechariah 11:12-13. We see the negotiation, the coinage, the arrangement and the betrayal all in these prophetic words. Of course, Jesus knew what was going to happen. Yet, He continued to go forth in His mission and purpose.
God expects the same of us in this eternal now. We will be betrayed and turned against in our lives, many times by those who are closest to us. Yet, we must continue the mission and purpose that God has called us to. We are able because God gives us the strength, and intestinal fortitude based on our faith in His ability to love and protect us from the attacks of the enemy. Today, as we walk with Jesus, be empowered by His Word. Realizing that no matter what negotiation, or arrangement is made for our destruction that God will take care of us.
Thank you, Lord, for your goodness and mercy toward us and the awesome opportunity that we have to serve you in spite of, and instead of the attacks that we encounter from without and from within.
Shalom
Pastor Smith
