What’s Happening at CG?

Daily Devotional

Read: John 13
As Jesus prepared to leave His disciples, He has to prepare them for life without Him in a world filled with death, darkness and destruction. Until now, they have always had Jesus to intercede and intervene for them whenever they were troubled. But, now they would have to deal with the attacks and arguments that would come after His death. To prepare them, He orchestrates a meal where He illustrates and models for them the characteristic that is most treasured by Jesus…servanthood. After the meal, He places towels before titles and performs a servants/slave’s duty by washing the disciple’s feet. This was the ultimate act of a servant showing us that if He, being God in the flesh, could wash someone’s feet, then God expects His disciples to have the same attitude of service.

Today, in our journey we walk in the shoes of Jesus the servant. We humble ourselves to the point of ministering to the less, least and lost among us. We vow to model our lives as disciples of Jesus after the example taught to us by the Master. We say explicitly to Jesus that there is no job too small, to low or too high for us to do if the Lord needs it done. We will serve in any way that we can, glorifying God and pleasing Him through our acts of obedience and sacrifice.

Today, we give thanks to you Lord Jesus for your gift of servanthood to us. We accept and follow your model of service to all who we encounter on our journey now and in the days to come. Thank you for entrusting this greatest of gifts to us.

Shalom
Pastor Smith
