Daily Devotional
Read: Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8
Is there anything more definitive in life than change? Change is a part of our daily existence and is always happening whether we acknowledge it or not. The earth is moving even though we can’t feel or see it, that’s change. One of the things that we hear people say as an objection to change is, “we’ve never done it that way before.” The current crisis enlightens us about the inevitability of change. We’ve had to change our worship, our communication, our living styles, and our work habits. We’ve discovered that if we are going to be successful now, and in the future, we will have to change a lot of things. The term being used today is, “new normal.” It means that when we come out of this crisis things will be different, and we will either adapt to the change, or be left behind.
Ecclesiastes is a book of wisdom, written by Solomon who was said to be the wisest man to ever live. The purpose of Ecclesiastes is to spare the hearers from the suffering and misery of pursuing after foolish, meaningless, materialistic things, and accept the wisdom that is offered by God. That requires change on our part. We’ve experienced it through our virtual worship, virtual Bible study, Zoom, teleconference, and Social Media presence. Some people have decided not to participate in the changing landscapes, for them change brings fear and uncertainty. The writer reminds us that just like the seasons change, so we must be willing to adapt to the changing seasons and times in our lives. “He has made everything beautiful in its time.” Ecclesiastes 3:11a
Lord Jesus, you have called us to recognize the inevitability of change and to embrace the changes, the “new normal” that we are about to face. We will face these changes with wisdom and courage because our eyes are continually on you.
Shalom
