A Note From Our Associate Pastor: Pastor Marian Royston
Thoughts on the Upcoming Season of Lent The season of Lent is almost upon us again. Lent is a time of repentance, fasting, and preparation for the Easter season. It allows for serious self-reflection. The season of Lent lasts forty days, excluding Sundays. The forty days represent the time that Jesus spent in the wilderness being tempted by Satan before he began his ministry (Matthew 4:1-11, Mark 1:12-13, Luke 4:1-13). The fast lasts from Ash Wednesday until Holy Saturday. This year, Ash Wednesday is February 22nd. I can say with confidence that our churchwide observance of Lent last year was one of the most meaningful and powerful Lenten seasons that I have ever experienced. There were so many opportunities to tune out the noise of the world and focus on God. It was undoubtedly transformative, even more so because we journeyed together.
I am looking forward to another transformative Lenten season. Lent is a prime opportunity for spiritual growth and transformation. I am currently praying about my Lenten fast, and I invite you to pray as well. Fasting is more powerful when it is approached with intention. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you. I encourage you to prayerfully consider how you will observe Lent this year. I hope part of it involves participating in the opportunities available to you through Center Grove.
Detailed information about upcoming opportunities for spiritual growth will be available in the CG newsletter each week. The first opportunity during the Lenten season is February 22, 2023. In observance of Ash Wednesday, “Come and Go Ashes” will be available from 7:00 am-9:00 am, and 11:00 am-1:00 pm. Then, our Ash Wednesday worship service will take place at 6:30 pm. We hope to see you there! Feel free to bring a friend (or two).
I am praying for you as we enter the Lenten Season.
