A Note From Our Pastor

A Note From Our Associate Pastor:
Pastor Marian Royston

Isaiah 9:6 CEB
A child is born to us, a son is given to us, and authority will be on his shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
    Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.

The season of Advent is truly a time for hopeful anticipation. Although it marks the beginning of the church year, the season also marks the end of the calendar year. Amid the flurry of Christmas cards, decorations, candle lighting, social gatherings, and special traditions, there is an underlying sense of anticipation of what is to come and reflection on what has passed.

With that anticipation and reflection comes the natural impulse to make plans. We also have the impulse to look back at our recent past with a critical lens. I am not attempting to discourage you from doing these things. I would suggest that they are appropriate activities that reflect the spirit of the season.

Instead, I would like to encourage you to remember that no matter what happened in the past or what will happen in the future that following Christ means that we can trust that the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, and Prince of Peace will guide our steps. So, I invite you to invite the Living God into your reflections and your plans.

In your prayer time, you may want to ask God the following:
·       What lesson do you want me to carry forward from this past year?
·       What are you calling me to leave behind?
·       Where do you want me to direct my attention in the coming year?

I can assure you that God has a message for you as a follower of Christ and for us as a congregation. After all, the Incarnation of Christ proves that God is very much concerned with the well-being of humanity. As we move further into this special season, it is my prayer that the peace of God rules in your heart as you look forward to the future and look back on the days gone by.

Blessings to you,
Pastor Royston
