A Note From Our Associate Pastor:
Pastor Ruth J. Smith

What’s Love Got to do With It?
And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.
-1 Corinthian 13:13-

Experts predict that somewhere between 40% and 50% of all marriages existing today will ultimately end in divorce. They say that the contributing factors will be the lack of commitment, infidelity, conflict/arguing, domestic violence, and substance abuse.

There have been 15 homicides in Huntsville so far this year. Racial hatred is spreading like wildfire amongst the races. Our politicians have become so consumed with the thirst for money and power that they have forgotten about the people whom they were elected to serve. Ordinary citizens have become so violent that they were willing to storm the capitol, do harm to others, and destroy the very fabric of democracy that this country was built on just to get their way and we proudly called them “Patriots.”

As I pondered over what is the cause of all this hostility, 1 Corinthians 13:13 came to my mind (the absence of love!). It states “And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.” So, what does love got to do with it? Love has everything to do with it. Love is the glue that holds us together. Love is the one common denominator that can remove hatred from our hearts; Love can remove the conflicts/arguing amongst us; Love can remove desires to kill one another; Love can restore broken marriages, relationships, and hearts.

1 Corinthians 13:4 -8 tells us that love is patient; love is kind. It does not envy; it does not boast; it is not proud; it does not dishonor others; it is not self-seeking; it is not easily angered. It keeps no records of wrong. It does not delight in evil but rejoices in the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres and love never fails.

Allowing our hearts and minds to be filled with the love of Christ is the only way to “Make America Great Again.” Why? Because love got everything to do with it.

Share the Love,
