What’s Happening at CG?

Daily Devotional

Read: 2 Corinthians 4:1-7
There is a saying that people use to describe our lives as believers in Jesus Christ. They say, “we are empty pitchers before a full fountain.” What they mean is the value of our lives comes from what is on the inside. Although we are the same on the outside, we need that which only can come from the Holy Spirit of God poured into us. When we come to that fountain our lives become changed into what the Spirit shapes and molds us to be, believers formed in the image and character of Jesus Christ.
The author of Corinthians reminds us not to put too much emphasis on the fragility of, “the vessel.” For “man looks on the outward appearance, but God looks at the heart” (II Samuel 16.7). In John 4 verse 14, Jesus says, “but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” Maxwell House coffee may be good to the last drop, but we draw from an eternal fountain that is never empty. Therefore, in this world of hopelessness we offer hope. Verse 5 says, “the message we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as servants for Jesus’ sake.”
Thank you, Lord Jesus, for giving us access to the fountain of your Spirit so that we may be filled. Today as we drink from that fountain, we confess our sins and renounce our shameful ways.
Shalom
