What’s Happening at CG?

Daily Devotional

Read: 1 Kings 19:1-5
For many people one of the outgrowths of the pandemic crisis is anxiety and depression. Being isolated maybe alone at home, away from our jobs and friends, not knowing what the future holds. We’ve learned new terms, shelter in place, safer in home, and mitigation. Just mentioning the virus can cause real fear and discouragement. Add to this, the around the clock media coverage, expert after expert, and it’s a perfect storm for stress, anxiety and depression.
The Prophet Elijah finds himself in a desperate situation, one that has caused him to become depressed and anxious. He feels alone, fearful, and hopeless. Although, he has recently seen God do extraordinary, supernatural things in his life (chapter 18). He forgets it all when he is confronted by an enemy who he thinks is bigger, badder and stronger than him. The problem is, he’s looking at himself and has taken his eyes of the source of his strength…God. Fortunately, when we read chapter 19, we see that the battle is not over. God not only has a plan for Elijah, but He has a plan to defeat the enemy also. All Elijah has to do is trust God and watch Him work things out for his good.
Oh Lord our God, how excellent is your name in all the earth! Life can sometimes be overwhelming and ever consuming. Today, we pray for wisdom, strength, and courage as we fight the demons of depression, anxiety, and fear. Thank you for the victory, in Jesus’ name, amen.
Shalom

Well Wishes To The Wilson Family!

Greetings Center Grove Family and Friends:

On behalf of the SPRC Committee, we ask that you join us as we bid farewell to our Associate Pastor, Rev. Samuel Wilson, Sr., and his family. After having joined the Center Grove Family this past year, Rev. Wilson, Mrs. Kirsten Wilson, their daughter Kayna and son Samuel Jr., were a joyful and much loved addition to our Church family!

Effective July 1, 2020, Rev. Wilson has been appointed Associate Pastor of Lakeside United Methodist Church, here in Huntsville, Alabama.  While we will miss having them in our midst, the SPRC and entire Center Grove church congregation extend best wishes to the Wilson family as they transition to their new church home and family!

-Joyce Taylor, SPRC Chairperson-
