What’s Happening at CG?

Daily Devotional

Read: Acts 2:1-4
Sunday May 31, 2020, is Pentecost Sunday. Pentecost is the celebration that takes place 50 days after the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is also the birth of the Christian Church through the coming of the Holy Spirit. Pentecost 2020 is significant because the church currently is in the midst of a crisis, a catharsis, and a change. The crisis is the global pandemic COVID-19 coronavirus. The catharsis is the cleansing from the spiritual negligence that has been affecting the church for years, and the change is the new normal transformation that the church will become post pandemic.
In order for the church to realize it’s future, there will have to be a mighty movement of the Holy Spirit of God that will reclaim the power, passion and promise of God within the people who have truly had an encounter with the risen Christ. The power of the Holy Spirit will reign and rain on the people of God bringing us together once again as one. The passion of the Spirit will cause us to share our possessions with one another in a spirit of selflessness. The promise of God will be the fulfillment of Jesus’ words in John 17:26 and Acts 1:8. This Pentecost will determine if the church of Jesus Christ chooses to pause and return to the past, or pivot and go forward into the future.
Lord Jesus, Pentecost gives us a chance to repent, renew and revive our commitment to live for you. Today, we offer ourselves willingly to the indwelling of the Holy Spirit to melt us, mold us, fill us, and use us in any way you choose.
Shalom
Pastor Smith
