Read: Isaiah 9:2, 6-7
The biblical definition of hope is confident expectation, having the assurance regarding things that are unclear and uncertain. Hope is one of the theological virtues along with faith and love. Hope is not wishful thinking, because in the hands of the believer hope is a fundamental component of our lives. We know that without hope, life is confusion, it has no rhyme or reason, there are no dreams, goals, or purpose. But, with hope there is strength, confidence, gratitude, and a positive outlook on life.
Over 800 years before His birth the prophet Isaiah spoke of the coming of hope in the birth of Jesus. The people were in darkness, captivity, and oppression, but hope comes wrapped in a child’s body, bringing divine counsel, power, strength, and peace. In Him we discover that there is light in the midst of darkness, and assurance that no matter what happens on earth we have a home, a heavenly building not made by man. Jesus is our hope. He is the Christ, the Messiah, The Anointed One, Son of the living God, who comes to save us from every one of our sins and give us eternal life.
Lord, thank you for ransoming my life, taking my sins, and nailing them to the cross. Today, I know that whatever comes my way I have hope, the blessed assurance that I have a deliverer and His name is Jesus.
Shalom
