A Note From Our Pastor

A Note From Our Pastor

“Don’t Just Stand There…GO!”
“They said, ‘Galileans, why are you standing here, looking toward heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way that you saw him go into heaven.” – Acts 1:11 (CEB)

This passage, in the Book of Acts, of the Apostles reminds me of how our worship cannot be contained to an hour and a half on Sunday mornings, but worship is a lifestyle. In fact, every moment of our lives should glorify God.  The word “liturgy,” a word to describe the components within a worship service is derived from the Greek word leitourgia, which literally means “the work of the people.” This particular passage in the Book of Acts describes a scene in which the apostles are gazing into the sky as our Lord Jesus ascends into heaven. I can imagine the magnificence of this event—watching our Savior, high and lifted up, with all power in his hands. I’m sure we’ve all experienced worship services in which the presence of God was felt in extraordinary ways. But, the passage doesn’t stop there, it says that two men in white robes appear and basically tell the apostles: “Don’t just stand there, go!” What a great reminder that first and foremost our worship should lead to action. God is calling us to not just come to worship week after week, experience the awesome power of God, and leave it all here until next week. But, we should be compelled to leave worship to declare the wondrous works of God. As we reflect on the presence of God in our life, let us also pray that God will lead us into places where we can be witnesses to His glory. Our world desperately needs to hear a word of hope and love as we seek to bring about transformation for the good of all of God’s children.

Let’s go!
