Daily Devotional

Read: Exodus 17:1-7
Way back in 1974 Burger King restaurant came out with an ad that said, “Have it your way”, and we have been trying to have it our way ever since. Even during this crisis as we watch record numbers of people contracting and dying from an invisible enemy that is indiscriminately sweeping across our land, we still want it our way. So, we protest, accuse, and criticize because things aren’t the way they used to be. Sometimes it’s easy to take certain things for granted. Like full shelves in the grocery store, the freedom to go anywhere you want, or a handshake or hug.

Moses and the people of God are in a crisis of thirst. They expect to find water, but there is none, so they grumble, murmur, quarrel, and blame. They forgot that this is not their first crisis, remember the Red Sea, manna, quail, and a water miracle on a previous occasion. Not to mention, they are delivered from slavery in Egypt and headed to their own land promised and provided by the God who made all things possible. The crisis of today doesn’t make sense and it is too complicated to figure out, so rather than seek my way I will trust the one who is greater than any crisis, knowing that He can make a way out of no way.

Father God, thank you for being the provider of all things. Today, you are my bread when I’m hungry, my water when I’m thirsty, my protector, my keeper, and my guide. I praise you even when I can’t see how blessed I am.

Shalom
Pastor Smith
