A Note From Our Pastor |
“Never Forget Where You’ve Come From” If the Lord had not been on our side -Psalm 124:1a (NIV) So often in life we get so busy with living that we forget how far we have come on our journey. I believe that one of the things that will push us into the future that God has for us is to remember the ups and downs, the good times and the bad times, the joys and the sorrows of life. It is in our remembering that we realize how blessed we truly are and it is God who has been with us all along. This weekend I had the privilege and honor of sharing this simple truth with the newest graduates of my alma mater, Candler School of Theology at Emory University. These women and men have been equipped and prepared to go into the world to demonstrate God’s love in a diversity of religious and secular settings. While speaking to the graduates, I was reminded that we all have powerful stories and experiences that have shaped us into the people we are today. And as we remember where we come from, we realize that God is calling each and every one of us to use our journey for the glory of God and as a testimony to others. The very fact that the word “remember” can be found throughout the Biblical text hundreds of times is evidence that remembering is a powerful discipline that helps us to stay focused on The One who always remembers us. So, I invite you to take some time to remember where you’ve come from! Celebrate all that God has done in you, for you, and through you. Blessings, Pastor Cowser |
