What’s Happening at CG?

Greetings Center Grove Family and Friends:
On behalf of the Staff Parrish Relations Committee (SPRC) of Center Grove United Methodist Church, please join us as we extend a warm and loving welcome to Center Grove’s incoming Pastor, Dr. Dedric A. Cowser.
Dr. Cowser, an Ordained Elder in the North Alabama Conference of the United Methodist Church, has been appointed to serve as our new Pastor, starting July 1, 2020. He joins the Center Grove Family after having served four years as Senior Pastor at New Beginnings United Methodist Church in Birmingham, Alabama. Prior to his appointment at New Beginnings, Dr. Cowser served as Senior Pastor of Sweet Home United Methodist Church in Gadsen, Alabama.  He also serves as the Conference Secretary of the North Alabama Conference of The United Methodist Church.

Daily Devotional

Read: 1 Corinthians 2:8-9
Sometimes, we think that we’ve got God figured out. Like a Rubik’s Cube puzzle covered with multicolored squares, we attempt to twist and turn the Word of God so that it matches the colors of our life’s purposes. How did God rescue the Hebrew boys from the fiery furnace? How did He cause the Centurion’s servant to be healed by just saying the word? And what kind of fish sandwiches did He make that fed 5000 men, plus the women and children? Ultimately, what we discover is that it’s just too difficult, and God is too complicated to figure out.
The wisdom of God is higher than our ability to comprehend. Jesus Christ was the most misunderstood person to ever live. He was rejected, arrested, tried illegally, beaten, and crucified by those whom He came to save. And yet, His last words were, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:34) Furthermore, He has prepared a place for us in eternity. There is no comprehending the things that our God has prepared for us. So, let’s be grateful for the wonderful life that we have in the present, with hopeful expectations of our future with Him.
Lord Jesus, thank you for your love that transcends our capacity to understand and explain. We wait with anxious anticipation to see the things that you have in store for us with praise and thanksgiving.
Shalom
Pastor Smith
