A Note From Pastor Cowser
Dear Center Grove Family and Friends:
Today, I write with a sigh of relief, but still a sense of pain. Relief that after almost a year of anxiously waiting, the verdict of the Derek Chauvin Trial has affirmed what many of us already felt and knew in our hearts. I am relieved that for once the right decision has been made to hold someone accountable for the murder of an unarmed person of color.
Even though I breathe a sigh of relief, I feel the pain of knowing that there is still so much work to be done in our world. How many other lives have been taken that were not given justice? How many more lives will be taken if nothing ever changes? Our nation is in desperate need of healing and restoration. Although this is only one verdict, I am prayerful that this becomes a defining moment toward true reform in our criminal justice system.
As Christians, we must remember the call of God upon our lives to “do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God” (Micah 6:8). Let us continue to pray for the family of George Floyd, our nation, and our world. Let us pray that the long arc of history is finally bending toward justice.
