What’s Happening at CG?

Daily Devotional

Read: Ecclesiastes 2: 24-26;
1 Timothy 6: 6-10
I knew a lady who could bake the best pies that you ever tasted. Any kind, I mean really goooood pies! One day I saw her sitting down taking a break early. I wondered out loud why she was breaking so early when she could be baking more pies and making more money. She obviously didn’t know how much money she could make; she wouldn’t have to work ever again. Now was not the time to rest. Why doesn’t she understand that if she worked more hours, she would make more money, and then she could enjoy life. Suddenly, she looked up from her comfortable porch, her comfortable chair, with her comfortable clothes, and her glass of sweet tea, slowly and surely as if to say, “enjoy life, I’m already enjoying life now.”
Many people spend a lifetime, working, grinding, and toiling so that one day they will be able to enjoy life. The Bible warns us not to get so preoccupied with making a living that we don’t learn how to live. We must learn that true enjoyment comes when we live by the guidelines that God has given us. We shouldn’t put more emphasis on the blessing than the one who gives the blessing. If we aren’t careful the day that we work so hard to enjoy may never come because tomorrow is not promised. Remember, life is not a mystery to be solved, but an experience to be lived, enjoy!
Lord Jesus, thank you for today and for the provision that you have given. May we always be thankful for what we have as we learn to enjoy the blessedness of our relationship with you, and all of the greatness that comes with it.
Shalom
