What’s Happening at CG?

Daily Devotional

Read: 1 John 1: 5-7
When you were young did you ever get scared at night when the lights were turned off? The shapes, shadows, and sounds would cause you to see all kinds of things in your own familiar room! The familiar had become the forgettable laced with all kinds of monsters, it was a real house of horrors. Then when someone turned the lights on you suddenly felt ashamed, because the monster was really your coat hanging on the door, the animal on the floor was your stacked shoes, and the sounds that were so scary was your fish tank. Light made all the difference. Because light is illuminating, it exposes things that in the dark look imposing and fearful.

John makes the statement that, “God is light.” He wants us to know that wherever God is, darkness and therefore fear, cannot abide. We are further exhorted to know that we who are in Christ cannot walk in darkness and remain in Him. To do so is to lie and not walk in truth denying the finished work of Jesus, which saved us from the penalty to sin…death. We know then, that darkness and death has no fear for us because the blood of Jesus has cleansed us from the penalty for sin forever, and has released us to walk in the light of the glory of God and not the fear of darkness.

Thank you, Jesus, for being the sacrificial lamb that was slain for my sins. Your blood purifies me enabling me to walk in the light as you are in the light, overcoming the fear of darkness.

Shalom
Pastor Smith
