What’s Happening at CG?

Daily Devotional

Read: 2 Corinthians 8:1-5
Sometimes, it’s hard to see just how blessed we are until we look around and see those who are hungry, homeless and neglected. The Christian community in Jerusalem had been ravaged–the people had gone through war, famine and persecution. The Apostle Paul decides to take a collection for the church at Jerusalem from the churches in communities that he had started. He didn’t have to do it, but it was the nature of the believer in him that caused him to work to meet the needs of others.

The Macedonian Christians in these verses were going through a very difficult time. Yet, they found ways to contribute to the work of Paul’s ministry collection. Having little themselves they gave liberally out of their poverty realizing that there was someone in worse shape than them. We realize that everything we have comes from God, and what God has given us is to be used to His glory. As we are in the midst of this medical crisis, many of us are struggling to make it and we don’t have much ourselves. But, as soon as we complain about our shortfall, we are introduced to someone with greater needs. We are still called to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, welcome the stranger, take care of the sick, and visit the prisoner. In this chapter, Paul introduces us to some guidelines for giving. Realizing that we have what we have by the grace of God, and that we can give because we received and live by His love daily.

Dear Lord, today I am grateful for all that I have and generous with those who are in need. “I cried because I had no shoes, until I met a man who had no feet.” Helen Keller
