Daily Devotional
Read 1 Peter 2:4-9
Two young boys were playing on the playground when suddenly they turned, squared up to each other and prepared to fight. As the other children formed a circle to observe, and even to egg the combatants on, I went over to investigate. With an intention of stopping what would become another black on black crime, I asked one of the boys why they were fighting. “He called me out of my name,” was his response. “But why are you fighting?” I asked. “I told you, he called me out of my name,” he said more forcefully, acknowledging my ignorance to the obvious fact. I said, “If he called you out of your name, then he wasn’t talking to you, unless you don’t know who you are.” The effect was as if I had poured ice cold water on a hot stove. The boy dropped his arms, turned away and waved in disgust toward the other boy who obviously didn’t want to fight either. In this text we are reminded of who we are in Christ. As people who have given our lives to Jesus Christ, we are not bum’s or beggars, we are royalty! We belong to our heavenly Father and that makes us a part of the heavenly Kingdom. We occupy a seat at the heavenly table as God’s own possession. What an incredible revelation it is to know who and whose you are.
Today we resolve to live our lives like the Princes and Princesses that we are, knowing that our heavenly Father watches over us and will do whatever it takes to make sure that we are loved, protected and provided for.

Community Information
How You Can Help The Downtown Rescue Mission
Here at the Mission, extra monetary support is needed to provide essentials such as meals and clean facilities for the hundreds of people in our care. So many of you bless us tremendously through prayer, volunteering, and financial support. As we make plans for the next several weeks, here’s what we do know. Many of our food donation sources, such as area restaurants and grocery stores, are not able to supply a substantial quantity of donations. Meanwhile, we are providing more meals than usual since our school age children have been here throughout the day and a greater amount of people from our community are coming for food assistance. We’re estimating an additional 600 – 1,000 more meals in addition to our monthly average of 25,000 – 28,000 (this doesn’t include any increases in community food assistance). Cleaning supplies are being used and purchased more frequently to maintain clean, safe facilities. We have a stock of these items but will go through it faster as we clean and sanitize. Program graduates who haven’t transitioned away from us are facing possible layoffs and if so, will be more reliant on the Mission for all of their needs.
