What’s Happening at CG 3/2/2022

A Note From Our Pastor
2022 Lenten Theme
“Final Words from the Cross”

The Season of Lent is a season of forty days, not counting Sundays, which begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Saturday. Lent comes from the Anglo-Saxon word lencten, which means “spring.” The season is a preparation for celebrating Easter. Historically, Lent began as a period of fasting and preparation for baptism by converts and then became a time for penance by all Christians.

Our Lenten theme at Center Grove will be the “Final Words from the Cross,” in which we will examine the seven final sayings of Jesus as recorded in the Gospels. I invite you to join me in reading and reflecting on the scriptures, join us for Bible studies, and participate in worship each week. Our prayer is that these statements will deepen our understanding of the sacrifice that Jesus made for us and strengthen our commitment to follow Him in this season and beyond.

Week 1 (March 6-12):
“Father, Forgive Them For They Know Not What They Do” (Luke 23:26, 33-34a)

Week 2 (March 13-19):
“Today You Will Be With Me In Paradise” (Luke 23:32, 39-43)

Week 3 (March 20-26):
“Woman, Behold Your Son; Son, Behold Your Mother” (John 19:25-27)

Week 4 (March 27-April 2):
“My God, My God, Why Have You Forsaken Me?” (Mark 15:29-36a)

Week 5 (April 3-9):
“I Thirst” (John 19:28-29)

Week 6 (April 10-16):
“It Is Finished” (John 19:30a)
and “Into Your Hands, I Commit My Spirit” (Luke 23:43-47)

In closing, I pray a special blessing over you and your family as we prepare to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord, this year, on Sunday, April 17th. Above all, may you experience a new joy that comes from knowing that Jesus Christ loves us and He gave His life so that we might have a chance at life more abundantly.

Ready to start this journey with you!
