What’s Happening at CG?

A Note From Pastor Cowser

“Christmas Is Not My Birthday”
“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but have eternal life.”
John 3:16

The traditions and customs of the Christmas season are significantly different this year; however, the significance of the birth of Jesus has not changed. Although these are different and unprecedented times, the message of Christmas is the same. Simply put, when nothing else could help our broken and sin-filled world, God himself came into the world through his son, Jesus Christ, to save us for his glory and for the sake of others.

Each year, I remind myself that Christmas is not my birthday, but the day in which we celebrate the birth of the one who gave so much for our lives. I am reminded of the words of Jesus to Nicodemus that demonstrate the sacrificial gift of God through Jesus Christ to the world: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). As followers of Jesus Christ, we are called to also give sacrificially of ourselves to the needs of others. Most often, we want to place parameters on our service to others, somehow determining if they are worthy of our attempts at being the hands and feet of Jesus Christ. However, in the Kingdom of God, serving others has no limits. We serve not because someone earns or even deserves to be served, but we serve because we are all God’s children, called to demonstrate his compassion in the world.

The world in which we live promotes fear, selfishness, and a survival-of-the-fittest type of mentality; however, we are called to live differently than the world, because of what Jesus Christ has done for us and in us. In this holy season of Advent, I pray that we will find new and renewed ways to glorify God by serving the needs of others.

Advent Blessings,
Pastor Cowser
