What’s Happening at CG 1/12/2022

A Note From Our Pastor
“An Irresistible Light in the Community”
“…let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.”
-Matthew 5:14-16 (CEB)

One of the things I do at the beginning of each year is, set aside time to reflect and set goals. It’s amazing to know that I can always press the refresh button and allow God to speak in new and refreshing ways. As Pastor, my primary goal is to cast a vision of where I feel that God is leading our congregation. Over the last year, we have hosted times for prayer, vision meetings, and conversations across our congregation called “Pastor’s Prayer & Care Sessions” to discern where God might be leading us. As a result, I share our 2022 Theme: “An Irresistible Light in the Community” based on Matthew 5:16 (CEB): “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.”

Our 2022 Theme should sound familiar because it is a variation of our Church Vision Statement which states that we are “an irresistible light on a hill winning souls of Jesus Christ.” This year, I would like for us to think about what it means to be light-bearers in our community. Simply put, our world has changed—some good and some not as good and I believe the church of Jesus Christ is key to bringing hope and transformation.

As we begin to shape our ministries around this year’s theme, here are four immediate goals we will work toward:

Create new and renewed systems to increase Average Worship Attendance (Online and In-Person), Membership, and Online Ministry Partners.

Streamline Missions & Outreach efforts to focus on hunger, homelessness, and food insecurities in our community.

Emphasize the relaunch and formation of Small Groups (Online and In-Person) for study, prayer, and fellowship (e.g., Seasoned Saints, Young Adults, Youth, Children, Mid-Week Adult Bible Studies, Sunday School, Discipleship Classes, and Confirmation Classes).

Continue to teach and emphasize the importance of both individual and communal Stewardship by creating a “Cultural of Generosity.” As a church, we will continue to work on sustaining the current ministry budget, but also plan to launch a Capital Campaign (only when the time is right) to finish areas of the building.

It will certainly take an act of faith for our congregation to accomplish these goals, but with God’s help, we will not only see our church transformed for the glory of God but the community around us. I often remind myself, if we are faithful, the steps we take today will have a great impact for the cause of Christ for generations to come.

Grateful to be your pastor,
Pastor Cowser
