I will forgive their sins and will no longer remember their wrongs.

There was a story told of a man who was a highly-respected church member in his community, but he carried the burden of a secret sin he had committed many years before. He had repented, but still had no peace or sense of God’s forgiveness. In his church, was a woman who deeply loved God and who claimed to have visions in which she spoke with Christ and He with her. The man, however, was skeptical. To test her, he said, “The next time you speak with Christ, I want you to ask him what sin I committed many years ago.” The woman agreed. A few days later, the man asked the woman, “Well, did you talk to Christ and ask him about my sin?” The woman replied, “Yes, he said he can’t remember.”

In Hebrews 8:12, the writer reminds us that God is merciful, and if we confess our sins, he will remember them no more. We will never understand the depths of God’s love toward us, especially compared to human standards. We live in a world that is most of the time unforgiving and unrelenting, but God is merciful and loving toward us, especially when we confess that we have done wrong. What a blessed assurance to know that there is nothing we can do that the Lord will not forgive. How is it with your soul today? Are there unconfessed sins in your heart? I know from experience that God is willing and able to embrace you with his love and forgiveness – just open your heart to him.
